The Challenge |
Our Church seats 510 people. Often times there is standing room only during liturgies. To accommodate the large number of youths who receive Confirmation and First Holy Communion each year, as many as 4 Confirmation and 5 or 6 First Holy Communion Masses are scheduled each year. Seating capacity is so limited that during the feasts of Christmas, Easter, and Palm Sunday, Our Lady Star of the Sea must offer simultaneous liturgies in the school gym to accommodate the overflow of people who attend Mass on these days. To be candid, seating capacity and worship space in the Church is sorely inadequate. |

The Goal |
The goal is to expand worship space and seating in the Church to at least 1,100 seats at a cost of $7 million. To pay the cost of the project, Our Lady Star of the Sea has conducted a capital campaign and raised $2.2 million. The remaining $4.8 million will come from the surplus of Alive and Growing, our last campaign, the parish operating surpluses over the next 5 years, and the Archdiocesan Bicentennial Campaign of 2007.. |

The Plan |
We anticipate construction to begin on the Church sometime in 2008. While the Church is under construction, we will celebrate our liturgies in the school’s Msgr. O’Mara Hall. As you know, the completion of the Athletic Center was critical to the expansion of the Church so that we could worship in the school’s gym without disrupting our youth programs. We have also forged a partnership with Mount Loretto to use their Church for special liturgies like weddings, funerals, baptisms, confirmations, and first holy communions. |
